Having played cyberpunk from day one, i have had a lot of fun playing it, even in it's early broken state. I had never bought into the hype train so i was never crazy about the game. Before release, i thought it would just be open world Dues Ex. Which would've been cool too. But Cyberpunk has gone through tremendous transformation since it's realease in 2020. And that is where Cyberpunk 2.0 comes in.
If you have been on the fence about Cyberpunk, now is the time to slide off and buy it. From start to finish it feels like a brand new game. Combat is cleaned up and balanced far more ( can still be broken granted). Driving is far more smooth and responsive. It doesn't feel like the cars have wheels made of butter sliding on a hot pan when you turn. The characters have more to say now and Johnny gets much more characterization. Which was much needed. The world AI is much more responsive and reacts to you in much more realistic ways. Not to mention cop AI has been overhauled making them now feel like a threat if you cause too much noise on the streets.
(not the mizutani shion)
Among the overhauls we now have new vehicle combat. And with that comes ,weaponized vehicles. My personal favorite car pre 2.0 was the Mizutani Shion. and now post 2.0 The Shion comes fully equipped with dual machine guns on the front. you get 50 shots, 25 per barrel before a reload which is nice and fun. Using it doesn't seem to dip into your actual ammo reserves. Also added for vehicle combat is the ability to shot your own weapons from cars. You are limited to what you can use, I've only found smgs and pistol to be useable. But this makes for chases to be more exciting and easier to escape from.
(return to Konpeki Plaza)
Among the character developments i found most interesting is your companions now periodlically text you. Sometimes just to chat. Sometimes just smiley faces to let you know they are thinking of you . Which is lovingly welcome. Getting sweet little texts from Judy as i was mowing down armies of Tiger Claws was exactly what i needed to push through and put more holes in thier faces. Companions also have more to say at different stages of the game. They can also be called on for advice in some cases, like in some quests in Dog Town (Phantom Liberty DLC), which is really really cool. Not to mention they just have more to say in general which makes them feel more like fully fleshed people.
(takemura facelift)
The game isn't without it's flaws. There are still many bugs. Most of what i run into seems to be lighting issues that makes everyone look like thier skin is made of silver, which is neat looking, but jarring. I also experienced some crashes if i left the game paused for long periods of times or if my primary audio device changed. Such kinds of bugs are really disappointing to see. I can live with visual issues, but CTD is never something I enjoy.
(type66 avenger in the rain)
All in all Cyberpunk is vastly better than it was at launch. Had cyberpunk launched in this state in 2023 it would be a Game Of the Year contender along side Tears of the Kingdom and Baldurs Gate 3. Cyberpunk is worthy of any action rpg fans library right now and it is definitely worth the cost now.
So the final verdict.
Having pirated cyberpunk before buying. I can confidently say that had i not bought it prior, I would most certainly buy it now. Cyberpunk respects and is worth my time.
